Owing to the fact that I do not currently have a life and I do have many
different interests I subscribe to about 40 different newsgroups. Yes, I
realize that these groups appear in the Outlook Express folder window in
alphbetical order, but it would still be nice if I could somehow organize
them into subject matter rather than by alphabet.

Has any wonderful freeware writing genius managed to come up with a program
that will do the trick?

Anxiously awaiting replies.....

How about View->Layout - tick "Outlook Bar"
If you then right-click select "Small Icons" in the Outlook Bar
(before running out of blank space) and drop
and drag the newsgroups in any order you wish.
(close the OE folders window to save space )

Does OE use a "newsrc" file or similar for keeping track of
newsgroups? Or does it treat them more like mail folders?

If using the newsrc approach (e.g. with News Xpress :) it's simply a
matter of editing the file with a text editor and putting the groups
in any order of your choosing and that's the way they will appear in
your "newsgroups" window.

Cheers, Phred.

You can create new "Accounts" that have different names but still use the
same news server. Then subscribe only to those newsgroups that match the
name of the account. I have an account called "Networking News", one called
"Security News", and one called "Linux News" that all use the same news
server. You have to download the list of newsgroups for each account even
though it is the same list, but this is a one time process. I hope this
makes sense.

You can have tabs in Dialog for different subjects/program groups.

You can "group" newsgroups, email folders, or both.

Currently time limited freeware. Soon to be time unlimited freeware.

Regards, John.
