Bit of a Public Service Announcement here guys :) I'm sure some of you are Organ Donors already, but for those of you who are like me and want to donate but haven't signed up... here is your chance:

https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/servlet/mydetailsservlet

I registered a few days ago online, and it's really simple to do. There is a big Q&A section I advise you read though first so you know what happens.

Just a "heads up" for other people like me that haven't registered but would like to :)

I know this is a serious subject for the forum Ian, and I don't mean to be frivolous when I say that if I donated any of my major organs I would probably do more harm that good. In fact I think it would be far safer for the world if I donate my body to science-fiction! ;) Worthwhile flagging this up tho m8:thumb:

Signed up on the site a week or so back now.

Made sure they're not getting the eyes though... that freaks me out something silly for some irrational reason.

I was thinking much the same thing 1nt, anybody who got my kidneys or liver might get the right hump when they realised the amount of alcohol they'd had to process :D

But seriously, all my friends and relatives know that should I pass on, the hospitals can have whatever they like. It's nice to think you could give somebody suffering an improved life.

I shall do this thing and get me one of those cards.

I'm going to sign up too :)

I'm sure my lungs must be at least 50% icing sugar now though - I've just whipped up some butter cream icing for a chocolate cake and made the mistake of using an electric whisk! :o

You automatically sign up when you get your provisional driving lisence - i put down to donate everything but my eyes...

Good idea really...alot of people wouldnt normally be bothered, mainly young drivers

i dont think its automatic Chris
there is an option if u would like to!

well it wasnt like that when a applied for mines.

its definetly a good idea for sure
i beleive once the soul has left the body the parts themselves are useless and no use to the individual
so donation is a very good option, could be very useful for someone dying or in serious danger!

Very apt Ian, I thank you ...

I, unfortunately, have first hand experience on the subject ... when my mind is a little clearer I may talk further.

Nothing is 'automatic' unless you leave a 'Will' ... a Will is not just for leaving all your worldly goods to 'Tom, Dick or Harriet’ ... but also to make your last wishes known, and that includes Organ Donation. It may come as a big shock to relatives that their loved one wish to donate their organs ... this could lead to a heated dispute amongst the near and dear at such a sad time ... Make a Will, and your wishes will be carried out in Law.

There are several organs that can still be used no matter what the state of your health is, though there are a few obvious exceptions.

Signing up on the "on-line register" will help doctors quickly know of your wishes as the computer system should "flag" a notice when they access your records.

The ‘Next of Kin’ is well informed by the Transplant Co-ordinators … it can also be very satisfying to know that your loss has helped someone else to live … and not just one person, many donors help several people at the same time.

Theres a selection of tick boxes for organs you wouldnt mind giving, then a dotted line where you sign... all integrated into the DL form. And thats it...

A commendable effort Ian, for flagging up such a impostant subjecy on the forums.
Registering for organ donation is one of those things I've been meaning to do for years now, but just never got around to it...I keep meaning to give blood too, although last time I went, I got refused as I had had a new tattoo the previous week, the intention was there though!
I am going to the donor site now to register.
