Got an Optra S1250 with duplexer around 5 years old but only lightly
used. It's currently printing a lot of major smudges down the left
hand margin and so the output is of no use for other than draft
printing.
I suspect this is at least partly my fault on two counts: first for
using a third party toner catrridge on the last refill; second for
never knowing what to do with the cleaning wand (or whatever it's
called) supplied with new toner - I've searched the manual on several
occasions but can never find just how it's meant to be used.
The Optra is big and clumsy and the toner is quite expensive, so I'm
quite tempted simply to junk the unit and replace it with say a
Kyocera FS1020D (I need duplexing), which will be a nontrivial capital
cost but should thereafter be much cheaper to run, as well as saving
space.
But OTOH I'm slightly reluctant to ditch the Optra when it's only
printed 25000 pages and other than the current serious smudging is
working OK. My quandry is whether to spend out on yet another new
Lexmark cartridge, try to get to grips with whatever might be causing
the smudging and hope that the cleaned printer might function and
produce good quality output for another year or two. Or to cut my
losses and go with the eg a new Kyocera printer.
Anyone care to comment please?
