I found out I have a file named mpldfg.exe that is placed
on comp by the optix trojan. Norton anti virus won't run
and other virus scans shut down in the middle of
scanning. I looked for the mpldfg.exe file in the
registry and can't find it. I need some help with this
please. I have xp hoem edition and a fairly uneducated
computer person.

hi-ive just started using an anti virus called stop sign-
it is excellent, cheap, around £16 to join then $7 a month
it should get rid of it for you, cheers roger.

Roger,
Are you kidding?
I haven't yet come across an anti-virus program that will reverse the
registry and sys.ini and win.ini changes that some Trojans make.
They'll certainly delete the root file, but you'd need a specialist script
to do the rest.

I agree. Most of the FUDWARE on the market is
usually makes the problem worse.

Hey Guys Thanks for trying to help. I actually think I got
rid of it with a program called Trojan Remover. It renamed
the file and fixed the registry. I had to start the comp
in safe mode and log on as the administrator before it
would work.

Alison,
Glad to hear you got your system fixed up.
Reading the blurb over at http://www.simplysup.com/ which I have assumed is
the version you got, I noticed it mentions fixing the registry .
However, I'd still check over the Symantec link to manually edit the win.ini
and sys.ini files to prevent any annoying start up errors caused by the PC
looking for the now non-existent Trojan program.
All the best
