My windows 2000 can no longer show Add/remove windows components. Reports
Setup was unable to open informational file optional.inf. Can't find
references to optional.inf on MS, what do I need to do to restore this file.

%systemroot%\inf\optional.inf
%systemroot%\inf\optional.PNF

If the INF exists try deleting the .PNF version and it will be
recreated.

Otherwise the compressed version should be found in the \i386\
directory of the source media. This is still an orignal file here
(W2K, SP4)
1999-12-07 07:00 1,703 OPTIONAL.IN_
Use expand.exe to to create
1999-12-07 07:00 6,905 optional.inf

Appears to require layout.inf as well which would be from the
currently installed SP files.
 
It worked, thanks big time.
