"Option" to play audio OR skip to next slide

I am creating a show that has no audio. All slides are advanced by a mouse
click. However, on just one of the slides, I would like to add a short audio
clip. I would show the sound icon with a text box that if the user wants to
hear the audio, they should click the icon. But if they don't want to hear
it, clicking anywhere outside the sound icon would automatically go the the
next slide. Also, can I display a text box at the end of the audio telling
the user the audio is done and they can click to go on to the next slide. Of
course, I know exactly how long the clip is -- 0:01:18.

It sounds strangely complex but I think it could be quite user-friendly.

Any guidance on how to do this will be sincerely appreciated.

You'll want a trigger animation.

When you insert the sound, you'll be prompted whether to play the sound
automatically or "when clicked." Choose "when clicked" and PPT sets up that
trigger animation for you.

To have the textbox come in, then just animate it to occur "after previous"
and drag it below the trigger animation.

Do you need more specifics about how to set up those animations? If so,
specify which version of PPT you're using.

Thank you -- that seems fairly simple.

I am using PP 2003. Does "when clicked" when the clip is inserted refer to
clicking the icon or the slide -- I assumed the whole slide, but had not
tested this. If it means clicking the icon, then it seems that clicking
outside the icon should just go to the next slide without starting the audio.
Is that right?

"when clicked" is the icon. It's a trigger animation.

"on click" generally means a random mouse click, not on any specific object.

In this case, "when clicked" means the sound will start when you click *the
sound icon.* Any other "random" mouse click will advance the slide.
