XP Home takes a long time to load!!!

It appears that it is taking a long time to load all of
the icons in the system tray. Is there anyway to
optimize XP startup - possibly by disabling Systray.exe?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Go to start -> run & type in MSCONFIG and hit OK. Then disable the programs
in the startup groups you don't want and try again.

Also, most programs which sit in the system tray have their own option to
enable/disable them. You should not try to stop systray from loading as
it's an essential windows component.

its not like 98 where you could disable things that started
automatically through computer management (or something
similar - i forget the name).

HOWEVER, if you go to control panel, system, advanced,
performance (click settings button),visual effects,
click 'adjust for best performance'.
click advanced (tab at top of screen), click programs for
both of the two round buttons (radio buttons)
click OK

performance will improve dramatically, but you will lose
the pretty colours etc.

if you know what you are doing and are confident of how to
correct an error you may make, continue, if you dont know
what you are doing, call it a day.

ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING:
1. click changed again and select the advanced tab
2. click the change button in virtual memory
3. click 'custom size'
4. set the sizes to large amounts (BUT LEAVE AT LEAST 1GB
OF SPACE ON YOUR DRIVE) e.g. you have 5GB of space
free, set it to 4GB (thats 4x1024= 4096)
then click OK
