Optical USB Mouse problem

after i upgraded my windows xp home to windows xp
professional my Optical USB Mouse doesn't work anymore
even in safe mode. anybody has any suggestions about this
problem? i tried installing the chipset for the system and
used other USB ports but it still won't work. any ideas?

does the mouse get power.... does the laser light up at
all or does it stay off all the time.... if it stays off
you might not have your drivers installed... i had to
install windows SP 1 and then drivers manually on my VIA
chipset motherboard
