Oplocks and cluster

(following my previous thread Subj "Oplocks" 5/7/2005)

I know I can refer to Q296264 for opportunistic locking configuration for
old database application running with obsolete engines (Superbase and
Paradox).
Here is a complex scenario from one of my customers:

2-nodes cluster, Windows 2003 Adv. Server hosting:
- Exchange Server 2003
- users home directories
- user profiles
- file share for obsolete database application

Is anyone aware of problems in such a configuration, while setting
parameters MRXSmb or EnableOpLocks on each cluster node, or while tuning
performance with UseLockReadUnlock parameter?

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for posting!

Based on my research, I did not notice that there is any problem with such
configuration. I believe that the behavior is same on a non-clustered
server. That is, if EnableOpLocks=0 is needed on a non-clustered server in
this situation, then you need to set it on both nodes on a cluster. Because
you have a file share for obsolete database application, the setting is
recommended. UseLockReadUnlock is a client-side setting. It does not care
if the server is clustered or not.

If there is anything that is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

Hi Jason,
Your answer seems clear, thanks. The IT manager of my customer has been
notified, maybe we'll try soon these settings.
