Seriously though, a lot of work is going into things like ORM (see C?:
http://research.microsoft.com/Comega/), and AOP. Forecasting their success
is tricky though. There's a lot of questions about AOP, and ORM's haven't
had much success so far.
 
I come from the Access world. I am learning VB/ADO.NET...I think things are
going backwards. I can do things in Access much faster than .NET.
FunctionOverloading is great....but I think Access is a remarkable product.
If they included a compiler and use the ADP (sitting on top of SQL Server)
then you've got it made.
I am talking more about developing apps for internal departments in companies.
 
I have little experience with Access. I have made one commercial app with
Access for payroll and few inhouse apps. I think Access is good for small
inhouse applications but it have its limitations.

With VB.NET you can do almoust anything :) And not forgetting ASP.NET
