Hi!

Anyone know what would be best buy from Minolta magicolor 2350, hp color
l laserjet 2500n, hp color laserjet 3700n or xerox phaser 8200dp?

Main use would be printing text documents, some web pages with text and
graphics maybe sometimes pdf file and some photographs.

What would give best output quality in photos?

How good is minolta 2350 600x600dpi with contone imaging compared to
hp color laserjet 600dpi with hp imageret 2400?

I used to have the Minolta 2200 and now have a phaser 8200.

Certainly the phaser is much better quality output and there is less
user intervention, it should prove cheaper to run as well. The downsides
are it is difficult to laminate the output and it needs to be left on
all the time.

If you contact a reseller they should be able to provide sample output
for you.

Well Minolta 2350 as default atleast has open 200 sheet tray only that can
collect dust etc. And design wheels bit non-standard atleast from pictures.

Well how good is phaser if it sits 1 month without any use? This printer
is for personal use. How glossy output from phaser 8200 is?

I don't know, the longest I've left it has been about a week, this
machine is churning out around 3000 pages a month.

If this is only for personal use, do you really need to spend the extra
for a colour laser?

It manages quite a glossy output even on cheap copier paper. I don't
know how to quantify how glossy it is from here!

Have you looked for a (Finnish?) re-seller to provide a sample print
out?

Hm well week does sound quite short.. well ofcourse it depends since i
have no printer currently.

Yes. I simply cant use inkjet because past problems with those. I wonder
if wax-based machine is as problematic as laser? (No maintenance required
in low volume personal use).

1499e seems cheapest price here so far for Xerox Phaser 8200DP model. No i
have not looked for sample yet..

I bought the Okidata 5100 for $650 and a set of 4 toners for $320. it has 4
drums so it's fast - very good for personal use. The disadvantage is it
takes a while to warm up and is quite noisy so I set it to sleep after 5 to
10 mins.

No Good at all. I have an 860DX and if the 8200 uses the same ink or
heat you will suffer. Mine (and others) burn the cyan ink which turns
green/brown. If it is used a lot it is no problem. If not you must put
about 200 sheets of paper through and print pure cyan to clear the tank
.... expensive as it takes about 2 stix [sic] to clear the old ink. It
may not be a problem with the 8200.

If you switch on and off every time it comes on it cleans the heads and
wastes a lot of ink. I would say 5 times on = 1 stix.

Sorry for the bad news.

I went with HP Color Laserjet 3700. Its true 600x600dpi with imageret 2400
(manual says that its improved for this model (it was available here
beginning of december 2003)).

But i dont have my printer yet (other items in same order arrived already)
because of logistics problems in transit company.

I ordered this for personal use (will probably last few years).
