I have a ASUS A7V8X mother board with a AMD Athlon xp 2000+ processor. The
board is just over a year old. The board and the processor fried for some
unknown reason. I am thinking of going with the A7N8X-X with an AMD 2800+
Barton core. Any pro's or con's.

The rest of my Major components are: 512 megs of PC2100 ram, 80 gig hard
drive, 400 watt power supply, Nvidia geforce agp with 256 onboard mem. I was
using the onboard sound but wasn't real happy with it. I may use a
soundblaster live card.

Thanks
Karl

Hardware choice is fine, would be nice to upgrade the ram to get further
benefits. The CPU and Ram should run at the same speed for stability on this
board, but there are success stories with faster ram and overclocked CPUs.
If you have the sound card use it. Get yourself a quality heatsink and fan
for the CPU maybe Zalman and use a software that displays the cpu temp in
your taskbar.
I read allot about people using the 2500 mobile and overclocking it to 3200
no problems but life expectancy?
Don't forget to do a clean install of the operating system coming from via
to nvidia I would not do it any other way!
