I'm thunking about buying a used microtex 9600xl, or possibly one of the
later models, in order to do larger-format scanning, and a small bit of
transparancy scanning (but opaque artwork and photo prints are my main
concern.

Does anyone here have experience with or advice about these scanners?
Are there any high-caliber reviews of these online? (I couldn't find
any, just a short note or two.)

Thank you.

I used to borrow a 9600XL to scan some of my wifes art work as I had nothing
that covered A3. It never had a transparency hood, although they were once
available. Its quite an old scanner now. I haven't used it for some time as
I no longer have a suitable SCSI equipped Mac to use it with. It was OK for
scanning flat material, but with a transparency hood would have had too low
a resolution for 35mm or medium format, possibly even 5x4. OK for 10x8 cut
film. It was only 600 x 1200.
