ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131569

All I am wanting to do is get into to the 64bit arena but in a way
that give me a good speed increase over socketA[asus 87n8x standard].
I am also wishing to upgrade to 64bit in a way that does allow for the
upgrade to X2 in the future but nothing really to flashy.

Anyone have an opinion on this motherboard OR can offer a better board
considering this one is around $85?

thanks for helping me,

I just put this in my machine. I love it. It doesn't have a lot of bells and
whistles but it works great. I had no problems moving my raid 0 array from
my old Nforce 4 board to this one and the machine booted normally with my
existing install of windows. I like that the PCIe x1 slots are between the
x16 slot and the regular PCI slots. I have two slot video card and it is
nice that it doesn't cover a useful slot. It is rock solid stable too. Good
overclocking features also. I have always been an ABIT fan and this is my
first ASUS. I had an ABIT AN8 and an AN8 Ultra before this board and both of
those were great once they were tweaked, but they were flaky and I had odd
constantly. The final straw with the ultra was that it wouldn't boot with
any USB devices plugged in. The A8N5X a great board for the price.

Look through the reviews on Newegg:

or for unresolved issues, have a look at the Asus forum:

On the Asus forum, set the "Since" menu to "All Days".

So you are basically saying that every ASUS motherboard built will suffer
from this problem eventually? ASUS is known as one of the premier
motherboard vendors. In my ten years as a tech I have seen ONE bad ASUS
board and it was in an Alienware of all things. They are stable, quality
boards. What brand do you recommend?

In about 6 months, it will start rebooting for no apparent reason.

Are you sure this is the fault of the board, rather than, say, a bad
Power Supply?
