Hello All------I'm a long time lurker in here. I've never popped my
head up because I've never really had anything constructive to say.
However, today I'd like some opinions from you folks. There are so
many intelligent folks here. I respect your opinions.

I've moved over to a new computer, and I need a free program to keep
track of my passwords. This system is operating on Windows XP. Which
program would you use Oubliette, PINS, or Password Safe, and why?

Thanks!

Deb

Password Safe. No install, fast, secure. Nice ability to launch your
browser and go to a site listed in the password record. Also can
autotype your username and password for you without putting it in the
clipboard.

Though, I suggest you actually put it on a floppy drive or thumb-drive
so your passwords are not actually on your computer.

As another option, I use Whisper 32 (http://www.ivory.org/whisper.html).
Haven't bother looking at anything else, it just works. Has never crashed,
has all the features I need, and isn't cluttered by things I don't.

I second that, although have not used either of the others. Also useful
to locate your password data file (from memory put in my documents by
default) and make a copy. Speaking as one who once lost it :)

I suspect that the passwords that you want to manage are from the internet.
If this is the case, I suggest that you look into installing Mozilla's
Firefox. I am not an advocate of anti-MS programs but one of the great
features of this program is it's builtin password manager, not to mention
popup blocker, security features, ease of use.......... You won't be able
to tell the difference from Internet Explorer.

You can download and/or learn more here:

Thirded for all of the aforementioned reasons ;-)

I personally like Whisper (for XP) because any newbie can use it
effectively. It is small, it will generate passwords for you, and its list
of passwords and user names is in a text file, not a data base

KeePass.

KeePass, definitely. It's similar to Password Safe but has been a few
steps ahead in development, IMHO, and it also has PocketPC counterpart.
