The ads look good, so who has experience with Epson 2200
(pigment inks) or 1280/960 (dye inks.)?

thanks.

Wolf,
I am not a professional but I print a lot of pictures for people on my 1280
and I have not had any fading problems with the ink. I think Epson did
report some problems when a print is left in the sun on a non-epson lesser
quality photo paper. I don't use epson photo paper. I have used it and it is
ok as are a few other brands but I prefer the feel and look of KodakUltima
Picure paper. Kodak does make a double sided photo paper that I have to say
does not produce anywhere near the qualtity result of the Ultima.
I've never had any of the people I have printed for say their prints faded
but I have always warned everyone to care for the print as if it were a
photo and keep it out of direct light.
I do see a difference with running the printer on Windows98 and XP though.
98 was better for epson - just my opinion and in time that may change.
Different print programs print drasticly different color results with XP
that I did not have on 98.
I do like the added ability to print poster size pictures but honestly the
ink is so expensive I think I have only printed a few poster size prints. I
sort of regret in a way buying it. It was really novel to print a big
picture but after buying so much ink, the novelty wore off. Then there was
the couple of bad epson ink cartriges I bought that would not print any red
no matter what I did. The store would have taken them back had I kept the
receipt.
I hope this helps.
Neysa.

There are several here who do.

The 1280 is an excellent printer in its own right, and enjoys a slightly
larger overall color gamut. The 2200, otoh, has the advantage of
significantly longer print permance with better overall D-max (contrast and
shadow detail/control). They both profile well, but I'd give the nod to the
2200 in that it requires less profile up-dating.

Do a google search and you'll find tons of reviews and write-ups on both
printers. Nonetheless, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either one: they
are simply different tools.
