'Operation Failed' Message during 'Send/Receive' After Removing OF

Hello Folks,
I am running XP Pro. SP2, and just removed Office2003 after the trial
period, and went back to OfficeXP Pro. with a <clean??> install. All apps
work ok- w/ exception of Outlook, which gives an error message "The Operation
Failed" when attempting to 'Send/ Receive'. Very STrange- because in the
setup box for my POP3 acct's, when I do a new account test- it goes out
through SMTP fine, and I receive the test messages in OE. I have disabled and
even removed my A/V software, and Ad Watch! as they both have Outlook
plug-ins that interact with Outlook. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled
just Outlook, and Office entirely. Nada. ANd just to state the obvious- have
rebooted too many times to count through all of these troubleshooting
attempts...

I am left with nothing else to try... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

has taken so long. I had trouble getting into these ng's for awhile after
posting...

Do you- or anyone else have any other ideas/suggestions??

Thanks-
