I have several partitions. And I read that the operating system partition
could be under 10 gig.. so that is what i did. I have most of my software
installed on another partition.... ... but my partition has gotten full.
What can i move?
Windows messenger? net meeting? can i move outlook express files/
thoughts and ideas would be appreciated...
That is quite a bit of the OS, but like you implied, there's lots of other things as well. You've done good by installing your apps
in another location, but you can move a lot more as well. I suggest using separate partitions for everything, with a minimum of os,
data, and apps, plus any other custom separations you need.
You can use TweakUI to move the My Documents folder to another drive.
Also, there are a LOT of things that can be cleaned up. There are entire guides where people post things that they have found that
can be safely deleted (there are also lists items that while unsafe to delete, leave the system functional). Here's a couple of the
easier ones:
\Windows\$* - these update uninstall folders take a up a ton of room, so if you don't plan on uninstalling the Windows updates,
delete them
\Windows\inf\*.pnf - these are driver cache files which can be deleted after you've got all of your hardware installed. They will
be automatically regenerated the next time you install some hardware and Windows tries to find a driver for it. There's almost
1,000 of these medium sized file
And of course temp files (normal temp and Internet temp). Make sure to get them ALL, for all users and the system.
