Colleagues,

After installing XP I find that the mouse arrow (although
moving OK) will not let me select anything. It's dead.
The menu bar at the bottom of the screen won't even pop
up when the arrow is put at the bottom of the screen. At
other times I can left "click" on an icon but only the
right click menu appears (double click is set to open
files). I, by chance, found that if I use
<control><alt><delete> to show the Task Manager, then
click on <close> once nothing happens, but if I click
twice the problem disappears. It has been suggested to
me by a friend that there is a program trying to load
somwhere. If so, I can't find it to complete the install
or delete it.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

It seems more likely that the problem lies with your mouse. You should check
the settings in the Mouse applet of Control Panel (or the settings for your
mouse driver, if you installed a separate mouse driver) to see if something
is not set correctly.

Failing that, you could try re-installing your mouse driver. Drivers
occasionally get corrupted through no fault of your own, inwhich case a
simple re-install usually puts things back to normal.

You can also try using another mouse with your computer. It may be that your
original mouse needs to be replaced.

Thanks, I'll do that. Appreciate your help.
