OpenType fonts missing in PowerPoint

I am working on some cross platform issues using Open Type fonts - The
one in particular "Frutiger Complete Family Pack" is a mac/win Open
type font. On the PC 2007 PowerPoint version ONLY 6 (out of 14) fonts
are available. The one I need to work is "Frutiger 65 Bold" - it does
not show in PPT. I tried to use the "Bold" button with the font
Frutiger 55 Roman - BUT it does not match (too Thick) the illustrator
file supplied (Client wants an exact match).
The fonts are properly installed using window XP - because they DO
show up in illustrator and other Adobe products. I thought "OpenType"
meant Adobe & Microsoft were friends?

Any work arounds? The overall request from the client is to have a PC
version (for sales) and a mac Version (for the Art Dept.). They want
to be able to output to pdf from both platforms and be able to merge
and have an exact match with fonts colors etc.
I always love a challenge - any suggestions?

I don't think this guarantees anything. Adobe's programs might be able to
utilize fonts that are not installed.

You need to check Fonts in Control Panel to make sure the fonts have been
installed.

Thanks for the quick reply - I've checked the fonts folder in the CP
and All 14 variations are in there. I have removed and re-installed
more than once - I don't get any errors during the install.

It looks to me that the fonts files that indicate "bolds, bold
italics, light italics are the ones NOT available in PPT.

What I am guessing is... the Bold and Italic formatting must be done
in PowerPoint using the Type Formatting buttons - UNFORTUNATELY they
do not match Adobe's output. eg Frutiger 65 Bold in Illustrator - is
not available in PPT, but Frutiger 55 Roman is?

Oh, and Also - the same fonts are installed on my mac (Mac & Win
OpenType) and I don't have ANY missing fonts. Go Figure?

Have you figured this out? I'm having a similar issue where I have three Opentype fonts installed and they're fine in Adobe, but they show up differently in Microsoft products.

In particular, Futura Heavy is showing up as Futura Medium. It looks fine to me, but it's going to cause confusion for my client.

Regarding your problem, I remember there was an issue with having TrueType, PostScript, and/or Opentype versions of the same font installed.

I don't remember for sure how it went, but I think I had Truetype and Opentype versions of Frutiger installed and once I got rid of the Truetype and just relied on the Opentype, everything I needed showed up. Or something to that effect.

Hello! Did you ever find a solution to the Frutiger issue in PowerPoint? I'm having the exact same issue with the exact same font. It's weird though because the open type fonts appear in the thumb slides off to the left but when I click on them or put them on slide show, the text doesn't appear.

I've gone on different computers where no Frutiger fonts are installed and all the text appears just fine -- both on the slide thumbs and on the slide show (full screen). On my Window XP where the Frutiger fonts are installed properly, I can't get them to show up in PowerPoint -- either on the thumb slides or on the PowerPoint.

Would love to know if you found a work around.

Thanks!

This link Explains how this font differs in MS Office (using Bold, Italic, style buttons) from Mac to PC. http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/html/readmes/FrutigerStdReadMe.html

Problem solved!
