I recently tried to download OpenOffice 1.1.2, and ended up with a
64MB zip file which can't possibly be the full suite. I'm guessing
that it's just the setup program, and that it requires me to do the
install online over the net.

Is there any way to download the complete program for later
installation on a non-networked computer? I'd prefer to test Open
Office on one of my secondary desktops before installing it on my main
machine. I'm also antsy about changing all of my browser sedurity
settings to accomodate a network install. I tried to do Windows Update
on my freshly reinstalled Win98SE system, and was unable to because
the site repeatedly insisted I get Windows2000 administrator status
first!

No, that's the whole thing. I have 1.1.0 and it is 65 MB.

It is the full suite... it decompresses to 142 mb upon install... MS
Office is just bloated as all hell is all!

For people who want to download something bigger, the source .gz for
OOo 1.1.2 is almost 200 MB. ;)

At least in German, there is also a PrOOo-CD, the ISO takes ~640 MB.
The PrOOo-CD carries not only the Office Suite itself, but also
additional spell checker, templates, fonts and other useful things.

Wrong.

From the site:
File sizes: Windows: 64.1 MB | Linux: 76.4 MB | Solaris (S): 86.6 MB |
Solaris (I): 78.3MB

I'm impressed. Seems to me the last time I downloaded Star Office,
OO's predecessor, it was around 550MB.

Thanks guys.

Star Office was around >100 MB to download, and was bloated as all hell with
a built in browser, email client, and other useless to semi-useless crap.

Any idea why there's such a difference in file size between the
Windows-Linux-Solaris (S)-Solaris (I) OSs?

1 - there are DLLs in Windows that do a lot, they don't exist on UNIX.
2 - the SPARC version may have 64-bit components, they are bigger.

Cheers,
