First: If anyone here is an admin for OpenNETCF.org, something big happened
over @ your forums.. As in you lost 2 years worth of posts.

Second (and more important): What is up with the 1.3 version? No more
integrated Visual Studio help.... Can't pick and choose to add resources...
Installation / upgrades are not simple... It doesn't uninstall completely
when you try to go back.

Given how tight you guys have kept that ship, I'm surprised at how it lost
it with the new release.

Hope someone has some time to look at it.

You caught us while the website is being moved. The goal is to preserve
forums and everything else. As for 1.3, yes, we are aware of some issues and
it is being looked at.

Ahh... Well.. You should stick a notice up there telling people to hold
on to their shorts... I about dropped a load thinking that one of the best
sites out there for CF development was going to die !

Thanks for the quick reply in here though.

Zac,

We would like to apologise for the problems with the site, we are looking
into it and hope to restore the full content of the site and forums as soon
as possible, these issues have occurred as we moved the site to a faster
server. Unfortunately I don't have access to investigate these areas of the
site but I have now put up a notice on the homepage indicating alternative
options in the absence of the forums - you'll always be able to catch
OpenNETCF folks here on the newsgroup or you can join our recently created
mailing list - send an email with subscribe in the subject to
(e-mail address removed)

Once again please accept our apologies for the inconvenience, we hope to
have the site fully restored soon.

With regards your v1.3 install issues, I'd be grateful if you could share a
little more about your setup scenario so that we can tie down the cause of
the problem. Did you uninstall the previous version first?

This might work for you - uninstall the SDF, open Visual Studio and you
should be greeted with "Help contents updating" dialog, if not open the Help
Contents menu (depends on if you have external help selected). Once this
is completed the help engine should have cleanly removed the SDF help. Then
preferably restart your machine, then install SDF and open Visual Studio and
open the help again, this time the help update should reinstall the help
content.

If you still have issues could you please post as much detail as possible to
the bug tracker - http://bugs.netcf.tv and then hopefully we can get these
issues resolved. There are already a couple of known issues with the
installation / deployment of the v1.3 release so I expect we will aim to
release a refresh release shortly to iron out these bugs.

Site issues resolved, whip those admins in shape... ;-)

1.3 installs OTH...

First Attempt (Before noticing any issues)
Steps:
Uninstall 1.2
Install 1.3
.... Gah! No help?

Second try (after looking on forums)
Steps:
Remove any traces of previos failed(?) installed and delete all directories
and copies of CABs / DLLs I could find.
Install 1.3
..... Still no help.

Third Try
Steps:
Reboot
Uninstall and remove traces of previous install.
Start VS2003 / Close
Reboot
Start VS 2003 / Close
Install 1.3
Reboot
Start VS2003
.... Still no help files. Help did not even "update".

Also noted during previous cleanouts:
No samples or help directory in install directory.

I was running on the July 2004 MSDN, after giving up on 1.3 help files, I
updated to April 2005 MSDN. No issues.

Summary: DLL files install. IDE integration of help files and control
toolbox does not install. Sample files not found after install.

My work around: Go back to 1.2, and chalk up a the lost day to experience.
"Wait a few days, then read forums and see if there are any issues next
time."

ps: Peter/Alex/et al, Thanks for a great open source add on for .NETCF
developers. Keep up the good work.

note: When installed the 1.2 files show up in "Add/Remove Programs" as
taking up 17+ MB.

The 1.3 files show as 1.06 MB. Something is missing.

Also, the install file of 1.2 is 7+ MB, where the 1.3 file is 5+ MB.
Something is wrong.

Then I got real bored. Did an administrative install of the MSI (extracted
it). No help files or samples to be found.

I'm going home. It's a long weekend. I'm gonna go outside.

Z

Yep, the 1.3 install doesn't have Help or Sample integration. We thought
that people might appreciate a smaller download - what I think we need is a
separate install for each piece and an install for the whole enchilada and
let users decide what to download.

I wouldn't mind that. I'll be setting up on 1.2 again until I see a post in
here (MS newsgroups) that all is well. Updated information on the OpenNETCF
site is... well... hard to find.

You guys do so well on the library though, I'm not whining. :-)
