opening

i clicked a link today, and internet explorer kept opening popup window
after popup window. there were 76 open when i finally just hit the power
button. what is going on, and how can i fix it? i have netzero high speed
internet (uses a proxy), ie6 sp2, and have winxp sp2.

spam popups, i assume?

does netzero claim to block spyware?

if not... google and read the frequent security and privacy recommendatoins, which often mentoin ad-aware, spybot, (freeware)

recently i saw a page where a non-freeware product combined wiht eihter of those 2 freewares, smushed the highest %of
malwares.

other freeware to read up on
