Thanks, but don't think that's the prob. I have 82GB free on HD. Any other

I think he means more ram not harddisk
also you should try killing processes you don't need
turning off eye candy(themes) also works well

How much RAM and virtual memory do you have?

Open WORKS and use the file/open menu to find and open the
..doc file. It should then be converted and opened by WORKS.

My pc has 512MB RAM and virtual memory is set at 768MB. Have tried increasing
vm and ending unnecessary processes, but works still says not enough memory
when I try to open the file. I have done process you mentioned to open the
file and it works for other docs, but not the one I need. Any other ideas?

How did you get the .doc file you want to open? It may be
corrupt and can't be opened. Try opening the file with
WordPad. If it was sent as an email attachment, ask that
they send you another copy in RTF format.

The .doc file is an application dowloaded from state website. I had it on my
pc before, recently pc went crazy and had to go to shop. Now I can't open
file. Do you know if XP Home Edition comes with MS Office? I have Works 7.0
which shows on start menu. If I look in explore under program files, there is
a folder for MS Office, but not much in it. No .exe files. It's bizarre that
I had the .doc file before, was using it, and now I can't open it. I don't
understand why it now says there is not enough memory to open the file.
Thanks for your help!

A .doc file should be a WORD file. When you say
"application downloaded from state website" what function
does that file perform? If it requires WORD and you don't
have WORD it won't work. WORKS can convert a WORD document
to be seen in WORKS but it does not have all the functions.

Windows XP (Home or Professional) is an Operating System and
neither OFFICE< WORKS or there modules come with Windows.

The least expensive way to get WORD is to buy WORKS SUITE,
($70-100) retail. If you need or want the OFFICE
applications too, Excel and such, see OFFICE Student/Teacher
Edition ((about$120-150) at many office stores and even
Wal-Mart.

You might check the state's website for their webmaster or
help section for your problem.

When I say "application downloaded from state website" I mean an actual
employment application. It is a Word document. The only other way to get the
file is downloading as adobe, but can't save data in it. Anyway, thank you
for all your help! I appreciate it.
