I posted a question a few days ago and now I have another detail I'm curious
about. I added a post to the original thread but didn't get any further
responses. Do I need to make a new post? I am fairly new to newsgroups so
excuse me if I'm making a blunder asking again, this way.
I asked if I can change what shows when Windows Explorer opens up in XP.
(copy of original post below) I was given two excellent responses, both of
which work. Thanks to Donald McDaniel and johnf. These are the two strings
I was given:
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, c:\
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, /n, C:\
My question now is:
Does SOMETHING have to be open? Can I have the drives all visible but
nothing actually expanded? If so, can I leave the C:\ off the end of the
string? Is that what causes the C: drive to open or is it the "\" switch at
the end? Oops. Guess that was more than one question. They all pertain to
just one basic situation, though, getting Windows Explorer to open up the
way I want. I would like to know if this is possible. If not, I will
contend myself with having given it my best shot!
Thank you in advance.

(Original post)
I recently bought a new computer and I'm trying to duplicate a year's worth
of tinkering and customizing. Whew! I didn't realize I changed so many
things!!!
I have Windows XP Home Edition, which is probably the only thing relevant to
this post.
One thing is really bothering me now. When I open up Windows Explorer it
has My Documents open and everything else completely collapsed. On my old
computer Windows Explorer opened up with the C: drive open and everything
else visible. The ideal startup scenario for me would be to see: Desktop,
My Documents (closed), My Computer (expanded to see all the drives), and
Recycle Bin. Is there a way to make this happen???
Thanks in advance.
