I am using Access 2000. I try to import a table from a
different database unsuccessfully. When I try to import
from Get External Data and choose the other database the
only tables that it shows are the ones in the current
database, therefor I don't even get the option of
selecting the table I'd like to import. Additionally, I
can't open two databases in Access 2000. Each time I try
to open a new one Access first closes the one I was
working with and then opens the new one. I have read that
if I have two databases open I could just drag-and-drop
the tables from one db to the other, but as I said I
haven't been able to open two dbs at the same time.
I would greatly appreciate any kind of asnwer on this
since I've looked everywhere without success.

Thank you,

Fernando

Something is wrong. You should get a list of the tables in the database
you selected. Is it possible they have the same table names? If so it will
just rename the imported table as name1.

1.. Open a database, or switch to the Database window for the open
database.
2.. Do one of the following:
a.. To import tables, on the File menu, point to Get External Data, and
then click Import.
b.. To link tables, on the File menu, point to Get External Data, and
then click Link Tables.

3.. In the Import (or Link) dialog box, in the Files of type box, make
sure that Microsoft Access (*.mdb; *.adp; *.mda; *.mde; *.ade) is selected.
4.. Click the arrow to the right of the Look in box, select the drive and
folder where the Access file that you want to import or link is located, and
then double-click the database's icon.
5.. In the Import Objects (or Link Tables) dialog box, click each table
that you want to import or link.
If you're importing, and you want to import just the selected tables'
definitions (not the data they contain), click Options, and then under
Import Tables, click Definition Only.

Note If you import a table that is already linked, then Access does not
import the data; instead, it links the table to its data source (in effect,
copies the link information).

Additionally, I

As noted you need to open a second session of Access then open the other
database. Sorry the drag and drop idea will not work to the best of my
knowledge. the prescribed way works well however.
