Whenever I click on a hyperlink to a PowerPoint file
(*.ppt), the file downloads and immediately opens in
slideshow mode. This is annoying becuase I cannot save
the file after viewing it. How can I change this setting?

Thanks!
-Brian

PS: I'm using a ThinkPad T30 running Windows 2000, IE 6.0,
and Office 2002.

If you can change the settings for how MSIE handles this, it'll probably
involve some mucking around in the Windows Registry.

Instead, did you know that you can simply rightclick the link and choose
Save Target As ... to save the file to your hard drive, then open it
normally?

Hi Steve,
Yes, I'm aware of right-clicking and saving to the file.
But I'd rather not go through those extra steps. It
didn't used to open right to slideshow, and it's now one
of those little annoyances :) Do you happen to know the
IE registry hack?

Thanks,
-Brian

Steve,
Thanks for the advice. I have been using the right-click -
Save to PC option, but it's still a hassle if I don't
intend to save the presentation long-term. Do you know an
IE registry hack to solve my problem? I searched the MS
Knowledge Base and couldn't find anything.

Thanks again,
-Brian

Steve,
I found the solution. See Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article - 299824.
A registry change for value BrowserFlags to "a" did the
trick! Mine was previously set to "8".

Thought you'd like to know :)
