Is there a way to save and configure a powerpoint
presentation so, when double clicked, the file will open
in "presentation" mode. We're trying to use PPT to teach
folks some things and some haven't used PPT before.

Thanks for any assistance!

Change the file extension from PPT to PPS (in Windows Explorer), or open the
PPT click "File", "Save as", click the "Files of type" dropdown, select
either Design Template or PowerPoint Template(depends which version you
have).

Now when they double-click the PPS file it opens in Slide Show Mode.

Help or documentation. I've ben searching for hours.

You should of asked here 1st. It's probably quicker than searching the help files or the microsoft website!

Hello,

What terms or phrases did you search on in either the help files for
PowerPoint or the Microsoft online Knowledge Base? We are always trying to
make our content easier to use and by understanding what topics customers
have difficulty finding will allow us to improve our content and search
engine over time.

As always, if you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions
for improvements to the built-in and/or online help content and/or the
interface/utility for the user assistance features in Office/PowerPoint,
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHYit is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Hello,

Saving as type of file "PowerPoint Show (*.pps)" is a partial solution that
is only effective when the presentation is opened via the operating system
shell (Windows Explorer, e-mail attachment, etc.) and does not restrict
viewing to only slide show if the presentation is opened up using the File
-> Open command (or task pane). This is because a *.PPS file is identical
to a *.PPT file (only the file extension is changed).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide a way of restricting access to presentations so that they can only
be viewed in "slide show" mode, don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:
