Opening PDFs with 7.0 problems

I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on my laptop, however, everytime I double
click on a PDF, my laptop tells me I must install Reader 5.0 to view the
file. I can open the file using 7.0 by going to "open with" but this is not
possible when attempting to open a PDF file attached to an email in Outlook.

How do I sent my laptop up to always open PDFs with 7.0?

The link in Outlook is looking for the previous Reader 5.0,
which no longer exists. I suspect that when you install
Reader 7.0 that Outlook was open and thus was not updated.
Reinstall Reader 7.0 making sure that Outlook is closed.
Version 7.0 has a Detect and Repair option on the Help menu,
try that first, with Outlook closed.

Help with Adobe Reader is available from www.adobe.com. I would simply
uninstall the Reader, then remove all links to "Adobe" from the
Registry (if no other Adobe software is installed on this computer)
and then reinstall the v7.0 Reader.

Hi Thorsten,

I'm not the OP so sorry for butting in on this thread but...

I can run version 6.0 but I'm having no luck getting version 7.0.1 to run.
It installs fine but if I try and run the reader it dies quickly (<1 sec)
with no error messages (on screen or in log files). Sometimes I can just see
it start on the task manager but not usually. Double clicking a .pdf file
produces the same result. I've tried fresh installing and upgrading from 6.0
several times.

The only thing I haven't tried is removing 6.0 and cleaning the registry of
left-overs? Worth a shot?

Yes. In fact, I never install newer Adobe Readers on top of the older
ones since this caused many trouble here in the past.
