Opening pdf file launches browser

The subject says it all. To be more precise, I'm referring to this
occurring when opening pdf files housed on my hard drive (vs. from
a webpage link). How do I stop this? Using Adobe Reader 6.0.

Never mind, I found the answer. I changed the "check for updates"
in Acrobat Reader 6 from automatically to manually, and that
solved the problem.
