I have many saved Outlook files. When I bought a new computer recently, it
was loaded with the new MS Vista software. I have tried to open my Outlook
files thyrough MS Mail but am not able to do so. I get a MSG file type for
the Outlook files and no response from the Vista software when I try to open
these MSG files. Can someone please give me some direction on how to convert
the MSG files to the new MS Mail format.

Thanks

Outlook opens Outlook files. That's pretty well it.

Try open one in Notepad and see what you can see.

I mentioned Notepad for you to just open them to see that they are still
binary files.

Windows Mail (and others as well), .eml or .email files are just text files
that are opened in Notepad easily.

Outlook 2007 may be going to the .xml file, hadn't looked to tell the truth.

About all you can do is drag and drop them into Outlook.

What you might do is find someone with Outlook or find a demo version of
2003
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office/editions/prodinfo/standardtrial.mspx
(this is the UK version so you might hunt for others)
install it, drag and drop them into it then import into Windows Mail.

If you really feel like programming look at this for the format:
