opening Outlook 2003 for first time..

Have just installed outlook 2003 on new computer and transferred folder
called "mail" from old "D" drive to new "D" drive - this contains all my
..pst files active and archive.
I haven't fired up OL 2003 yet on new machine as I remember having troubles
last time! (a few years ago!)

Can anyone advise on procedure to seamlessly open my existing (old) .pst
file when first opening, rather than the one buried away on the system drive
that I recall coming up when first opening the new copy?

You can't. Outlook 2003 creates a new PST file by default that will open on
first launch.
Just reconnect your old data file after that.
