I can not open Outlook after installing the application. The Outlook logo
comes up and then the message "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem
and needs to close...." comes up. Please tell MS about this problem.

I sent the report to MS. Do they do anything about the report?

Does anyone know how to fix this. I have unistalled the app and reinstalled
it but the same thing happens.

No. You've provided no information. Remember, we can't read minds. Provide
at least some basic information, including:
1. How you installed Outlook and why you would be installing only Outlook
and not Office.
2. Why you need to install a product so far out of date and out of support.
3. Messages you received during the installation.
4. How you configured Outlook during the installation and in which mode you
installed it (Corp/Workgroup or Internet Mail Only).
5. Whether you installed clean or over a previous version.

I have had the same problem. I have used Outlook 2000 as a part of Office
2000 SBE for years and never had problems, but about 4 days ago, my computer
restarted after a Windows update, and ever since, I have experienced the same
problem.

I get the following error when I start Outlook:

Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

When I click "more information about this error," I get this:

AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2416 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00037efe

I can send the rest of the technical data if that is of any use to you....

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I installed sr-1a and sp-2. When I tried to install sp-3 I get the following
message:

Office Hotfix Installer encountered a problem. We are sorry for the
inconvenience.

The included data is as follows:

ProdCode : x ProdVer : x Action : OHotfixDetectionNPUErr
ErrNum : 1612 Err0 : {86EBDD0F-9C25-422A-8A69-36B7C8673032}
Err1 : NormalPatch.cpp Err2 : 139

Any thoughts?

Thanks

So you already knew you were no longer able to update your Office version?
Sounds like some useful information to have included.
Post a clear description of your installation problem in one of the Office
groups where they deal with these issues.

I suppose it would have been useful information to have included had I tried
it before you suggested ensuring that my Office Installation was fully
updated. However, since I had not yet done that, it would have been hard to
include that information. You know what they say about people who assume....
I will look at some other office groups to see if I can find some assistance
there.

Patti,

There is a file called outcmd.dat. I renamed it as outcmd.old, and if i
recall, i had to re-install after that. everything has worked fine since
then. you may want to backup all your contacts, notes, appointments, etc.,
before you do that because i lost all mine. i was able to retrieve them from
a prior backup. i don't recall what the files are, but you should be able to
search microsoft to find out what you need to back them up. hope that helps.
