Opening new windows

When I have one window open in Internet Explorer, and
then press Ctrl-N to open a new window, the new window
always opens to the same page I'm already on. Is there
any way to get IE 6.0 to open new windows as BLANK
windows? I've played around with Tools, Options,
Advanced and can't get anything to work.

No, my home page already was sent to blank. It still
happens. Does anyone else have other ideas?

Doug,
Ctrl+n will always copy the open window. Open the new one with the IE icon
in the Quick Launch bar or Start> IE (or Start> Programs> IE.)

Don

But that will launch another session of IE, right?

I don't know the answer to that, technically. IExplore.exe is already
running. You're just opening another window. In Doug's case (and mine) we're
opening a blank window because we've chosen a blank homepage.

Try setting your home page to blank.

I guess from a resources perspective you might not want to have many IE
processes running at the same time, although it probably doesn't really
matter.

Interesting information. I may experiment with that registry setting.

This is starting to feel like a FAQ.

Try a Google Groups search for:
ctrl alt desktop shortcut blank group:microsoft.*.ie6.browser

I agree that it might not have been the most obvious set of search terms.
My answers didn't show up without this much specificity. Maybe if more
people use this search and click on the results my answers will get higher
visibility for more general searches.

Thanks once more to Matt Douglas for making me aware of Desktop
shortcuts.

Robert,
Good tip. I think people shouldn't be so concerned about opening another
instance of IExplore.exe.

Don
