This starts happening all of a sudden since last night. Whenever I click
(regular left mouse click) on any link within a page, it opens the page in a
new IE window. This starts happening on my both Win XP based computers
(laptop and a desktop).

Is this something new that just got put in by default in the lates Windows
Update (that I believe just got automatically installed yesterday)?

It is very annoying. I do not want so many windows to be open. Can anybody
pl. tell me how to revert it back to original default behavior i.e. open the
links within the same window.

Thanks
Shail

Go to IE Tools>internet options>advanced. Move down to "reuse windows for
launching shortcuts". If it is blank then click it and it should fix the
problem.

Thanks Frank for the response. Interestingly this is already checked in and
IE is still behaving as if this is not checked in. I anyway tried to uncheck
it, apply it, closed IE, restarted IE, changed it again back to check in,
apply it, closed IE and restarted IE. No luck, still opening new window
everytime clicking on a link.

Thanks
Shail

Hi shail,
Does this happen with all the links you Left Click on, some programmers
write their HTML Code to Target="Blank_Target" not the Main Window.
Try different links and see.
