Opening nef photos in Digital Image Suite 2006

When trying to open nef files in Digital Image Suite I get an error message
saying "Sorry, can't open that file". Is there a work around for this?
Digital Image Suite should open these files. I am using a Nikon D200.

The only workaround would be to open the files
in compatible software and save the files in a
standard format...jpg, .png, .tif, etc. Then you
can import them into DIS2006.

The inability to support certain RAW files is due
to the SDK for said file format being released
later than DIS 2006 was released to manufacturing.

At this time, no updates have been announced.

BTW, Nikon D50 files have embedded JPEGs,
so they are visible in the Library. If you try to open
them, you will get an error.

That's almost exactly what Microsoft's tech support told me after the 45
minutes I spent on the phone with them today. FYI

MS Support told me that Suite 2006 does not in fact support these .nef files,
that lots of people have brought this to their attention, that they are
taking the issue to development, and that it will "probably fixed in the next
release."

I spent that long on the phone with them because I got disconnected twice,
transferred probably three times, etc.
