Pro I need your advice I just got a new job and at this environment is AD
2000. The users are 2k and XP. The users have folder redirection for my docs
and its sub folders such as my pictures.

My boss said that the network seems to be slow ever since the folder
redirection. Microsoft knowledgebase refers to update server to latest
service packs but they are already up to date. I installed SUS server so
everything is up to date. My boss also claims that when he upgraded to
Symantec antivirus 8.0 corporate things go slow as well.

At my last job this was not the case the last job had the same setup but no
problem there.

It is really slow now when I try to open my documents it takes a little
while or even when saving a file.

The clients machines are 1 year old and half of them have a gigabit card.

the switches are 100MB..

If this seems to general or vague let me know what other info you pros might
need.

All suggestions as well as opinions are welcomed….

The first thing I'd check would be DNS settings - be sure that all clients
are looking only at the AD DNS server for name resolution and that the AD
DNS server is resolving all names outside the domain. If that fails then
the next step is to start isolating the problem to find the bottleneck -
starting with the server where all shared files are stored and working
outward.
