opening link in a new window

On my computer, when I click on a link on a webpage, it opens in a new
window. When I do it on my brother's computer, it opens in the same window,
which makes it difficult to flip back and forth between the two. We are both
running IE 6.0.
I have been unable to find where to change this.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

This isn't completely reliable or predictable. You should get used to using
Shift+click. ;-)

Whew! Thanks for the quick reply! (13 minutes)
I had unchecked the box you suggested, and tried the Shift Click suggestion.
Still the same situation. Using the exact same link on both computers still
produced different results, as noted above. I tried clicking the box
suggested and unclicking, and restarting as well. Still no luck.

Ok... This may apply if IE absolutely refuses to open a new (second) window
from a link.

You may have a toolbar or program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, etc.
The Yahoo toolbar is a very common cause. Uninstalling the Yahoo toolbar
should allow a second window to open.

If you're sure that another program isn't causing this, these links should
help.

That may indeed be the case (not Yahoo, but I think he may have something
else) We both have the Google popup stopper, but he may have another, and
they may be configured differently. He lives 2 hrs away, so will print this
off, and try it on my next visit, and report back.
Thanks again.

Hi,
Start with:
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."
Then check Control Panel> Add or remove programs for the Yahoo toolbar. If
not a Yahoo toolbar problem, work through the other possibilities in my
message.

Hope this helps,
