All of a sudden, when I download a Word document, or try
and open it from explorer (it has the Word icon next to
it) it opens in Adobe ... it's as if Adobe photoshop is
the default opener!

How can I change this?

Thanks

Pam,

It appears that your computer has registered files with the .doc extension
to open with Adobe Acrobat. The following may help:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm

I personnally have never used that method. You can use Control Panel>Folder
Options>File Types to change have file extensions are registered.

You may want to look at the other Word file extensions (e.g., .dot) while
you are at it.

The only downside of re-registering Word is that it will wipe out all
your customizations in the File Types dialog box relating to Word. For
example, if you have an option to open some file type with Word, that (I
think) will be lost. But if you haven't made any changes in the File
Types dialog box, then it's probably safe to re-register Word.

Personally, though, I think it's better to learn how to make the changes
manually in the File Types d.b.

Try this:

Find a file with a .doc extension using Windows Explorer. Hold down the
Shift key while right clicking and choose OPEN WITH then navigate to the
Word executable file.
