I have recently uninstalled Photoshop CS3 and installed CS4. Previously
when I double
clicked on an image file it opened in CS3. When I do it now it does not
open in CS4 stating that it is not a valid windows 32 application. Jpg and
Jpeg files are associated with CS4 in the Windows Explorer file option menu.
I can drag files to the photoshop desktop shortcut and they open.
There is no also difficulty opening these files once Photoshop CS4 is open.
Why can I not double click to open them?

When the new version was installed, it might've been installed to a
different folder. That might have damaged the association for some
filetypes. Right-click, click Open With, click Browse and find the new
version of Photoshop, select the Photoshop executable and check "Always
open this type file with this program". Click OK to load the image.
The association should be corrected now. If you right-click a _working_
shortcut to Photoshop and click Properties, you can see correct path to
the file, and the filename.

Have tried that.. It still comes up with the same error message.

Uninstall, then reinstall Photoshop CS4.. I suspect it will repair the
associations. If not, there may be an option on the Toolbar of the
program that will let you set the associations.
