Every time I open up a certain folder the thumbnails or tiles start to load (it doens't matter what folder viewing option I am in), but then explorer 'clears' or 'resets' - causing that folder to close, and anything else i had in the taskbar. this only happens with this certain folder, which contains about 10 images in .gif format in which i want to see a preview of so i know which one i want to edit

Why is this occuring?

Let me know if you find out. Mine has been doing it for some time. I
am down to doing a reload of XP. If I get time (time to do it and about
three days to get things all working again if I am lucky) I may have it done
by this time next week.

Right now it seems as though it may have been an update about 60 days
ago that triggered it.

Hi ericp,

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) go to the folder in question
changing directories (cd .. ) and delete the file thumbs.db
This contains the thumbnails of the pictures, it might be corrupted.
First you have to change its attributes through the attrib command
attrib -S -H thumbs.db

Example:

C:\Farmer>attrib thumbs.db
A SH C:\Farmer\Thumbs.db

C:\Farmer>attrib -S -H Thumbs.db

C:\Farmer>del thumbs.db

C:\Farmer>

Then try to view to folder in the normal Windows Explorer.

Good luck
