Opening Firefox from a Shortcut

I have a number of Internet shortcuts on my desktop. Most of the time, but
not always, when I open one of these I get a dialog that says:

"Windows cannot find "HT TP://www..XXX.com/" make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button,
and then click search."

This did not occur when using IE 7.

What, if anything, can I do to avoid this irksome behavior?

I am sorry but I was unable to find a way to insert the URL for the website
for which the shortcut is intended.

The Properties dialog does not have a place for the URL as does a shortcut
for IE.

Where did I go wrong?

Do you have Firefox's home page set to a URL that doesn't exist? Check under
TOOLS/OPTIONS/MAIN .

Before I read your post I had it set to a "blank page". I changed it to
www.google.com, then closed Firefox and reopened it by clicking on one of my
shortcuts -- unfortunately it result in the same dialog.

I might add that the dialog occurs even though the webpage that the shortcut
references is displayed without a problem. It is the fact that the correct
page is found and the dialog saying it couldn't be found BOTH occur that is
so annoying!

I would be tempted to download the latest version of Firefox and then do an
uninstall and install that latest version....who knows, there might be
something corrupted in the installation that you currently have.

Several folks have suggested "fixes" for this problem-- I appreciate their
efforts.

From the dismal results obtained by trying the suggestions I am led to the
conclusion that they are *guesses*.

I am visually impaired and, as a consequence, it is very difficult for me to
experiment with guesses at solutions. If anyone *knows* the cause and/or a
solution for this problem I would appreciate their input.
