Opening files problem

At home if I have mapped to network drives at work they don't disconnect when
I terminate my connection. Then when I try to open a file (e.g. in Excel) and
click on the "Look In" box it takes 1-2 minutes before the available drives
appear. If I then manually disconnect the mapped drives everything works
okay. I remember seeing that there is a problem if Windows XP is still
looking for mapped network drives but, since they are no longer available,
this slow down occurs. Does anyone know the root of the problem and a
resolution.
Thanks,
Bill.

Sorry, I don't know the "why" part of your question but to stop the search
for network resources that are no longer available, you might try disabling
the setting found here: Folder Options> View: Automatically search for
network folders and printers.

Thanks, I'll try it out.
