The Old Fart

I plugged a USB HDD in to the port with the view of copying some files
on the drive. The first few files opened without any problems & I was
able to copy without a problem. When I clicked on other files I got the
message that the the drive isn't formatted & it asked if I would like to
do this now.

I'm confused how can I open & display any files if the disk isn't
formatted? Is there some way to get to the files that I currently can't
get to because windows thinks that part of a drive isn't formatted? How
would that be done?

I think Dynamic disk is eliminated because you do have a drive letter.

If the drive is encrypted with some tool like Truecrypt for example, you will destroy the data that is stored.

Have you tried the Windows built in tools to check the drive (Scandisk)?

Scandisk is not a tool, which comes with Windows XP. Itwas included with
Windows 98 and Windows ME. For Windows XP the tool is chkdsk.
