When my daughter logs onto her desktop on XP (we have five in the family) MSPaint tried to open each exe file instead of letting them open themselves!!!! I tried to dis-associate exe from Paint, but I can't see how you can do this.....so I uninstalled Paint.
Now the exe files that want to open just tell me that they need to be told what program to open with!!!!

Any ideas?? The other users open OK.

Hi,

Copy exe_fix.reg to your desktop from:
ftp://12.107.147.141/regfiles

Double-click it and allow it to merge with your registry. The fix should be
immediate (and you can reinstall paint as well).

It still refuses to do it. If I click an icon in her start menu it pos a box up saying 'There is no program associated with this file' or something similar, then says something about clicking on 'folder options'.....

Hi,

Then the problem is with .lnk files, not .exe files. Go here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Select the line to repair .lnk (shortcut) file associations.
