Opening documents in xl

I have xl 2003 but recently it seems to be taking a long time to open xl
speadsheets that aren't very large and which I am accessing from the local
harddrive. It didn't used to take so long. There are no links to other
documents.

Any ideas?

I'd clean up windows temp folder first.

Close excel
windows start button|Run
%temp%
and click run

And clean up all the files/folders you can.

(It might be best not to have any open applications when you do this.)
