Opening Defender

I have a new computer with Windows 7. When I try to open Defender, I receive
the message: "The specified service doesn't exist as an installed service.
error code - 0x80070424"
What should I do to correct this?
 
Do you have any idea what changes have been made to your system that might
have caused this?

I would try: Start, accessories, system tools, command prompt

Right-click the command prompt icon, and choose run as administrator.

In the command prompt window, type:

sfc /scannow

and hit enter.
