I want to be able to click on the icon and open an Access
database during a slideshow. So, I insert/object and it
works fine in powerpoint, but if you use the presentation
mode (slideshow), when you click on the icon, it just goes
to the next slide.

Click the "Autoshapes" icon on the Drawing Toolbar, highlight "Action
Buttons", then click on the top left button "Custom". In the Action
Settings dialog box, click the "Hyperlink to" dropdown arrow and select
"Other file". Browse to your file and select it. Once done, right-click on
your button and click "Add text". Type something you want. You can also
change the fill color of your button to match your slide colors (even though
it will give you the color design that goes with your design template you
are using).

Will this work for you?
