You don't need a broadband 2.
I can be connected by modem or DSL and access my email account when I start
my email program.
Tools, Accounts, Mail tab, highlight your account, Properties button,
Connection tab, uncheck "Always use....".
Tools, Options, General tab, "Do not connect".
Tools, Options, Connection tab, nothing checked and click Change,
connections tab, check "Never dial a connection" and nothing checked under
LAN Settings button.
