I saved a 203 page document in an older version of word (906kb) and am unable to open it in word 2002 I get the message please try to use the map network drive. command to connect to the serverto shorten the path..
What on earth does that mean??

Please help othewise I will lose a lot of work

It appears to be saying that the full path to the document is too long (ie
more than ?255 characters). Either follow their suggestion and map a drive
letter to the folder containing the document, or copy the document to your
local drive.

Try saving to different Word Versions, such as 2000, 97 and see what
happens. And see what happens with each, if the problem persist, save as
Rich Text Format or Plain Text.
